May is Mental Health Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to the importance of mental health and the resources available to support it. Having a pet, especially dogs or cats, can help improve your mental wellbeing by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and playfulness, and even improve your cardiovascular health. We love hearing the impact your Greyhound's have had on your life! Kate and Arthur are advocates and examples of the link between pet adoption and mental health. Check out their story below!

Meet Kate and her 4 year old Greyhound, Arthur.

Kate was looking for a companion who could match her lifestyle and provide wellbeing support as she navigated through her mental health journey. Around the same time, after retiring from racing, Arthur needed a new loving home for his next stage of life. Through our Auckland Adoption Day last year, Arthur and Kate were matched up and they both fell in love. Kate found a community in fellow greyhound owners who are all equally passionate about their matches. “Greyhounds as Pets literally saved my life by blessing me with Arthur.”

With five other pets already, Kate needed a dog who could settle into the busy household. The ‘couch potato’ nature of Greyhounds, mixed with Arthur’s loving personality, made him the perfectly calming addition. Arthur’s unconditional love and quirkiness has brightened Kate’s days, and the pair actively advocate for the linkages between pet adoption and mental health.
